Under a night time's sky The story of Twilight Part 1- Introduction The elders knew about my secret past, a secret past I never knew existed....
In my early years of my life I was grown up to believe I was born and raised at Priderock, but only half of that was true. It was true that I was raised at Priderock but in reality I was never born here. Why the elders had kept the secret about my true past and my identity a secret for all these years I did not know. But as I grew up and got more smarter and a lot more questionable I asked about my mother, and they told me that my mother was from pride rock but died after giving birth from me. But as I grew up I realized that wasn't true as I looked and felt different among everyone else including my friends, and this is when the elders finally told me about my true past. For anyone to make sense of my story I must go back to the beginning, back to the day I was born. My name is Twilight or what some of my friends call me Light but I really don't like the nickname and this is the story of my life so far. My story starts at sunset many years ago.

Part 2- One life ends and another begins
It is sunset, nearly night the sounds from the Pride lands was pretty normal for this time of the day. The sinking sun made the sun turn the sky a light shade of red You could hear the sounds of insects in the grass and the odd sounds of animals as they went about there business and beginning to settle down for the night;while others where waking up and where starting there day. The weather is still incredibly hot which is pretty normal even as the sun was setting it would begin to cool down a bit; soon it would incredibly cold as the darkness that the night always brought to the these lands. Usually the stars and the moon would take over the job of the sun as the only source of light but unlike the sun the moon and the stars did not bring the warmth. But today of all days the quiet and peaceful Pride lands was going to change because of this one incident and who could know how much was going to change in years to come because of what was about to happen because of the birth of the cub Twilight the future heir to Pride Rock,me. A heavily pregnant lioness was running through this unfomilular land she was being chased by the worst humans that could possibly live; these people being poachers in there beat up 4x4 jeep. They where armed with some sort of hunting rifle of some description and a large cage that sat in the back of the jeep it was obvious about what they wanted. They where going to try and capture her or if they failed that they where probably going to kill my mother one way or the other but either way they where not going to be going back empty handed. At the time they didn't seem to care or notice that in fact my mother was heavily pregnant with me at that very time. It made me wonder later on in my life wherever or not her life could of maybe been sparred and for that I feel partly guilty because of her death. "Hurry up" Shouted one of the poachers in the 4x4 jeep "If you don't speed up we are going to loose it" he said looking angrily down at his partner as he had the spot light pointed shakily at my mother. At this point darkness was almost certainly upon us the poachers have been forced to turn on the jeep lights and the big spot light that was housed on top of the jeep. "Just keep that god d**n light on it and we won't" his partner grumbled angrily back to him. My mother had been chased by these poachers for ages. They started chasing her shortly after getting into these new lands; and running around in these lands was very confusing and frustrating on her. And to no prevail she could not seem to be able to get rid of them no matter how far hard she tried. The reason why my mum was in these new lands at the time was because of something bad happened in her pride and she had to get away from it before something bad happened to her but she only managed to get into more trouble that was happening right now. She had no idea where she was going, she was just running blind trying to survive she wanted her unborn to live. "For god sake how on earth am I going to loose them" my mother mumbled to herself tired and angrily. She recently started to look desperately for a perfect place to loose these poachers even if she lost them for about ten seconds it would be good enough. She was nearing a river and there was miles of long grass and reeds surrounding both sides of the river a almost perfect place to loose these poachers. It was now or never she had to take her chance either try and escape or die these where her two choices. My mum took her chance and quickly turned away from the chasing 4x4 and dived into the long grass at the same time the poachers hit a protruding rock in the ground and it knocked the big flash light of the grasp of the poacher and the jeep slid to a halt. The poacher who was in charge of the light took grasp of it and shone it around long grass and around the area of the river. "Oh great job now we lost it, why don't you look where you are driving next time you idiot" he yelled angrily at his partner. "Just keep searching for it" his partner replied just as annoyed as he was "It couldn't of got far". At this time my mother was lying low in the long grass trying to keep as quiet as she possibly could she swore to herself that if they got out to search for her then she would have no choice but to kill them both. And after everything that these poachers had put her through that evening it would be nothing more than a pleasure to kill them. They continued to use the search light to look around the river and the surrounding area to see if they could see my mother. Then suddenly about a mile or so down river they heard a noise and decided to check it out probably thinking it was her. They slowly but surely made there way down still shining the light around from river to the surrounding area. This was the perfect time for my mother to get across the river and escape over the other side and into the long grass because there was no possible way that the poachers could get onto the other side. But luck wasn't going to be on are side that night and she started to get pains and collapsed onto her side. She knew now that I was only minutes away from being born and she wouldn't have enough time to make it across the river and climb up onto the other side and she wasn't going to risk it just in case. Several minutes after trying to be quiet as she could a male lion cub was born which was me. My mum cleaned me up and I was healthy and fine with nothing wrong with me. I looked like any normal male lion cub light golden brown fur which would get darker as I grew up with dark blue eyes and unlike any other lion or lioness I had the most weirdest of birth markings; which was a crescent moon on my fore head and small star like birth markings on my neck. My mother smiled down upon me as I looked up at her from below. She was extremely tired after everything that had happened today but now she had something to be happy about. She fed me for the first time and in a few minutes I drifted off to sleep at this point my mother was considering whether to cross the river or not but at that moment she was too tired and she felt very safe and decided it was now safe to safely rest. About a hour or so went by my mother and I slept beside one another. Somewhere down river the poachers had given up and where slowly coming back up with there spot light now off they where both incredibly annoyed at them selves for losing the lion. "I can't believe we lost it" said the poacher who was driving "We should of shot it when we had the chance". "Yeah well its a bit late for that isn't it" muttered the poacher who was on the spot light "It probably escaped over the river while we searched down further down". They continued to travel up the side of the river again getting closer and closer to my mother all the time. My mothers ears suddenly perked up suddenly aware of the noise of the 4x4 she knew the dangers that both me and her where in. They where very close maybe less than two minutes. There wasn't going to be enough time for her to swim across the wide river and climb up the side before the poachers came and to make things worse she was still very tired from all the running and from giving birth to me. But if she didn't try and escape there was a possibility she would be killed by them but there was a possibility that she wouldn't. But she panicked through her tiredness, being captured or being killed. She didn't want to die but even more she didn't want me to die because the reason why she had left all the trouble was so I could live she had to take her chance and escape which was being reduced every second. The vehicle was getting very close now so quickly my mother got up and grabbed me by the scruff and quickly and gently got into the water and slowly started to paddle across. She neared the edge just as the poachers where about twenty or so seconds away and she slowly tried to clamber up the edge and get safely onto the other side. Just as she was clambering up the side the poachers where just about to drive by. My mother had reached the top and placed me down in the long grass by the edge safely out of view. But just as my mother was trying to climb up unluckily her hind foot slipped on a loose rock. She skidded down knocking down stones and dirt into the water below making a load splash. "d**n it" my mother said to herself. "Did you hear that" the poacher who was driving said "Get that spotlight on over there". A few seconds later a blinding flash of light from the spot light brightened up the dark sky temporarily stunning my mother. "nuts!" my mother mumbled and quickly turned away from the light and started to clamber back up the edge again she was very scared. "Look its that lion" said the driver jumping out of the jeep "Shoot it" he cried out. "There's no point" the poacher on the spotlight said "Its on the other side of the river there would be no way we would be able to get it. Just let it go"

"Just let it go are you crazy" the poacher shouted out angrily at his partner "We have chased that thing all evening there's no way in hell I am going to give up now; just shoot the bloody thing there's a chance we still may be able to get it" he said now staring at my mother who was clambering up the side again. "No" the poacher on the spot light said coldly to his partner "I will not shoot it. There's no way we will be able to get across the river to get it. And the closest place we will be able to cross is almost a hour down river and by then that lions going to be long gone; lets just leave it". While the two poachers where arguing my mother was slowly making her way up to the top of the slope. "Well if your not going to shoot it then give me the rifle" the poacher growled loudly and snatched the rifle from the back of the jeep and quickly loaded it up and aimed just as my mother had got up the slope. My mother threw a glance over towards the poachers she thought she was now safe. But just as she glanced away and looked down at me she heard one of the poachers shout "No!". There was a deafening bang which made my mother jump and almost immediately she felt a dull thud hit her in the side with such force it knocked her down into the long grass. She struck her head on the floor knocking her out temporarily. "I got it" the poacher said happily jumping in the air like a little kid. "Great job Einstein how exactly are we going to bring it back over huh" the poacher on the spot light said with disgust at his partner "There's no way I am going to go down river for a hour just to go back up to get it". "Well we shall come back and get it tomorrow then" the poacher said still happy about how he shot my mother. A minute or so later the poachers had got back into the 4x4 the spot light now off and they drove back towards home. There head lights and back lights faded out as they went into the dark distance. Slowly my mother started to regain consciousness my cries slowly brought her back round. She tried getting up but suddenly a sheer pain in her side where the bullet went in and quickly she fell back down again. "We got to get you away from here you have to live little one, its why I have gone through all this mess these past few days" she said looking down at me. She reached over and picked me up by the scruff and put me beside her she wanted to feed me now because she knew right then she was in a lot of trouble. She fed me once again and I quickly fell back to sleep completely unaware of what was happening around me. My mother grit her teeth and struggled up onto her feet and looked at the wound in her side from the bullet which was now still lodged inside of her. She was bleeding very badly right then she knew she didn't have long left to live and she wanted to get me as far away from here so that the poachers wouldn't find us in the morning. She picked me up by the scruff and slowly and painfully walked away from the river. For about a hour or so my mother walked as far as she could but eventually through tiredness and blood loss she took her last ever step and could go no more. She carefully placed me down on the floor and then my mother just collapsed right next to me. For several minutes my mother just lay down trying to catch her breath as every minute it was getting harder and harder almost torturing her. The night was cold and for my mother it was constantly getting colder because of her blood loss; she maneuvered her self over to me and cuddled up to me trying to keep me warm she didn't want me getting cold in case it killed me. "I don't have very much time left little one and I have so much to say to you" my mother said in a sad tone "I have to come up with a name for you also" she said showing a sad smile. For the next few hours my mother talked about everything that has happened back in her pride and why she had left and made sure that I had to live. Very soon you will learn about the problems with my mothers pride as the story progresses. Then she apologised about getting into all this trouble and how she wasn't going to be alive to see me grow up. Death was in the air every minute and second that passed brought death that much closer to my mother who was being weakened because of the loss of blood. Dawn was about a hour or so away the sky was getting lighter. My mother was now very close to death and she had so much more that she wanted to tell me, to remember. She nuzzled me and I awoke she started to feed me again which would be the very last time and she did it in hope that I will make it through most of the day and in hope I would be found alive. She let me feed and while I was feeding she yet again started to talk to me. "I know you won't remember anything that I have said when you grow up my little one. But I hope you remember what I tell you now" My mother said looking down at me as I fed. "In a little while I will no longer be alive and I will not be here when you grow up and for that I shall apologies now. But please remember what I tell you now I may no longer be alive in a body but remember that I shall always be by your side, as a spirit in your heart, I am always with you. I will guide you when ever you are in trouble or lost just think of me and I will guide you ". I finished feeding and looked up at my mum she was several minutes away from death she wanted to do one last thing before she went and she cuddled up with me as best as she could to keep me warm. "There is one last thing that I want to do before I go little one" she said with a weak smile "I have to come up with a name for you" she said looking down at me still smiling that weak smile she had tears forming in you eyes. She knew she had only a few more minutes alive she felt incredibly cold and was shivering because of her blood loss and tiredness was overwhelming her. She looked at my birth makings and looked up at the sky at the many stars that was still blinking. Tears rolled down her face and the light from the stars made her eyes glisten then she looked over at the moon which at that the time was crescent just like the birth marking on my forehead then suddenly she came up with the perfect name and quickly looked back down at me. "I have come up with the perfect name little one" my mum said smiling with tears still in her eyes and slowly rolling down her stained cheeks "By looking up at this sky and at your birth markings I finally come upon a name for you. I shall call you Twilight my little one" she said "I am always with you no matter what Twilight just remember that" and with that she leaned over and kissed me on my fore head. "I love you my little Twilight, I.......love......you" my mother said with all the emotion she could possibly do and tears still rolled down her cheeks these where to be the last words she would ever say to me. She very slowly began to loose consciousness because of her blood loss; her heart beat was weakening every second and her breathing was labored and shallow. Very slowly her heart beat slowed down and her breathing became even more shallow. Several minutes later she took her last breath and her heart did not beat anymore and she fell into a internal sleep the kind of sleep no one would ever wake up from. Her life had ended but mine has only just begun. I was only a baby back then and I thought she had fallen asleep she was still warm and slowly I drifted back off to sleep still cuddled up to my mother. The night was slowly ending the sun would slowly be rising up within a hour or so but I still slept where I was cuddled up with my mother till the morning light came.

Part 3- One of Us
The first break of day light finally started to rise turning the once dark Pride Land into a spectacular early morning display of light turning the black sky many shades of red and yellow as the sun slowly crept up into the sky. Animals, creatures and birds where slowly starting to go about there normal days business; for them everything that happened last night was a complete mystery to them as me and my now deceased mother had not yet been discovered. I was slowly awakened by the lively sounds of the Pride lands the creatures made scuttling sounds and the birds sang there songs as they flew over head and sitting in the many trees scattered around the area. I opened up my eyes and glanced about where I lay. My eyes where still very sensitive to the rising sun and I was temporarily blinded by it; but when my eyes got used to the light I marveled upon the colour of the sky. This was the very first time I had seen the sky so bright which at the moment was starting to loose its colourfulness of red and yellow and started to turn a clear blue. I looked around at the surrounding area seeing all the strange animals and birds and at the tall trees and the grass. I saw a cricket hop near me and playfully I reached out with my paw only for the thing to hop away into the grass as I stared at in amazement as it hopped away. I looked away and looked up at my mother who unknown to me at the time was now in fact dead but something was now very clear to me my mother was no longer warm but instead she was stone cold. Being only born several hours earlier I had no understanding of death because to me at that time she was still alive. I looked up at my mothers face she looked so peaceful and beautiful even though she was dead which was still unknown to me she looked like she was still sleeping. We where both still cuddled up tight together I could no longer feel my mothers heart beat or a breath escape my mothers mouth; her chest no longer had any movement. But I felt safe at that very moment and very slowly I started to slowly fall asleep again still cuddled up with my mother my head now nuzzled up in my mothers chest I drifted off. A unknown amount of time passed until yet again I heard more noises that where going to wake me up but this time I was awoken by the sound of talking and I was too scared to open my eyes because these noises where not familiar to me; I decided to stay quiet, keep my eyes closed and cuddle up tightly to my mum so I couldn't be seen and eaves drop on what was going on. Out in the Pride lands a three lioness hunting party from Pride Rock where out on the early morning hunt and at the moment they where not having very much success cause already they had let a small group of Gazelle get away and since then they could not find anything else that could be hunted. They walked around the Pride lands just watching and looking for anything that they could hunt. Kuza who was the huntress leader of the tiny group of lionesses suddenly caught the sent of blood which was quite close and started to run off in the direction of where the sent was coming from. Kuza stopped several feet away when she finally saw what the sent was coming from and for the first time set her eyes down on the dead body of a lioness. A minute later the other two finally caught up with Kuza and stood to the left and to the right of her and looked down at the dead lioness in shock and saddened by the sight and for several minutes none of the three could speak and continued to just looked down. After several minutes one of the lionesses to the left of Kuza finally plucked up the courage and started to talk. "What do you think happened to her" the lioness to the left of Kuza said. "She's been attacked but there isn't any signs of any animal marks on her" said the lioness on the right side of Kuza. "There's only one explanation I think" Kuza said looking at the two lionesses at her sides "Poachers must of got her" both of the lionesses next to her looked over at her and looked back at the body. "Poor thing never had a chance by the look of it" the lioness on Kuza's right. "Look at the trail of the blood" the lioness on Kuza's left said moving around the side of the dead lioness "Looks like she did get away and got this far or else she wouldn't be here". "hnnn.....hey you two take a look at her" Kuza said looking down at the dead lioness "She doesn't look like anyone that is from are pride does she, where do you think she came from?" Kuza said confused. "No idea" both of the lionesses at the side of Kuza said throwing each other uneasy glances. "Maybe we should go back and get the others and see what they think" the lioness on Kuza's right side. "Yes that would be a good idea" Kuza said and started to turn round and walk away with the other two who had already started to walk back trying not to throw a glance back at the dead lioness. They did not see the lionesses cub still cuddled up tight to her.

Slowly I noticed that the animals that where here a few minutes ago had started to walk away and I was slightly confused about who they where because I was to scared too open my eyes to look. I heard a voice inside my head which sounded like my mother trying to tell me something it kept saying 'cry my little one cry you have to live'. I started to cry like the voice in my head told me to do and I opened my eyes to see the three animals running back towards me and my mother I was still crying and felt very scared about what was going on. Kuza and the two other lionesses ran back to the dead lioness and quickly looked to where the crying was coming from and straight away they found the crying male infant hugged tightly to his deceased mother it was a very sad sight bringing tears to all three of the lionesses. "Poachers shot a pregnant lioness that's sick" said one of the lionesses. "Poor little thing" the other lioness said "What are we going to do with it Kuza" she said looking at Kuza. "I think there is only one thing we can do" Kuza said looking at the lioness who asked her the question "We have to take it back to Pride Rock with us because if we don't its just going to die". The two lionesses nodded in agreement and Kuza walked over to the crying infant and carefully picked up the infant by its scruff from its dead mothers lifeless grasp and slowly started to walk back with the other two lionesses. Kuza felt really guilty about taking away the cub from its dead mother because if kept crying and staring back in the direction of where his mother still was; the cub finally wore it self out though and drifted off to sleep. The hunting party slowly but finally arrived back at the place they called Pride Rock by the time they arrived the sun was high up in the crystal blue cloudless sky and very slowly they made it up to the top of Pride Rock and into the cave where the king was. "We have brought some bad and good news for you are king" Kuza said placing the sleeping cub down on the floor in front of the king "The bad news is we have to sadly inform you we have found a dead lioness out in the pride lands. We think poachers must of got to her but she luckily got away but unfortunately she was already dead when we found her". The king turned around and looked at Kuza "Where about in the pride lands did you find her Kuza" he said in a sad tone moving closer over to her. "About 5 miles away from Pride Rock" Kuza said "But we do have good news" she said gesturing to the sleeping newborn cub "We found this little one still alive cuddled up to its dead mother its barely a day old yet so its very lucky we found it alive". "That's some good work" the king smiled at Kuza and looked down at the sleeping cub. But he quickly lost his smile and was saddened again thinking about the cubs mother "Who was the lioness who was killed?" he questioned Kuza. "That's just it we have no idea" Kuza replied confused "I don't think she's from are pride because I don't recognise her at all". "I think it would be wise to go back and take another look at her I may know what pride she may be from" the king said. "If you do go back to look at her my lord please don't take me again I just don't think I could take thinking about this cub of hers" Kuza said sadly shaking her head looking down at the cave floor. The king walked over and nuzzled Kuza "I understand Kuza you can stay here you have done enough today you should be happy with yourself" Kuza glanced up and smiled a sad smile and looked back down at the floor. The king looked at the other two lionesses who stood next to Kuza "You two have also done good today do you want to stay behind too". "I will lead you to where she is if you want to stay behind" one of the lionesses said to the other. "We can both show him if you want I feel all right" she replied back to the other lioness. "Ok then you two can show me where this lioness is then" the king said "We should take a few of the others along with us as well I think maybe the could have a idea about who this lioness is". "Before you go" Kuza said glancing up from the floor "Can I have a word with you its concerns about the cub" The king looked over at Kuza "Sure what is it" he said with a smile. "I want to talk alone with the king for a few minutes privately if that's ok" Kuza said looking over at her two hunting friends. They nodded and walked out of the cave. Kuza walked over to the king and sat down and looked at him "If its ok with you can I adopt this cub as its now got no mother and since I found it and took it away from its mother I feel like it should be my responsibility to look after him you know". "I understand and I think you know the answer to that question already Kuza" he said smiling at Kuza and looked down at the cub "Of course you can". "Thank you" Kuza said with a happy smile. "No need to thank me Kuza" the king said and slowly walked over to the cub and looked down at it for a minute or so and then glanced back up at Kuza "I sense great things for this cub". "You think so" Kuza said confused. "Yes from today this cub is now one of the pride as his mother is from Pride Rock" he said "But Kuza all that has happened already has to be kept a secret from this cub because when he grows up he might not be able to take the truth. Also we may learn some new things about who this lioness is and why she turned up here". "I understand" Kuza said. "Good" the king smiled "Well I am going to gather up a few of the others and head out" he said turning around and started to walk out of the cave. Kuza walked out of the cave and looked down into the pride lands as the king sorted out a small group of lionesses including the two who where with her that morning. After several minutes they set off and Kuza watched them go off into the distance and for several minutes she remained there just sitting and watching. Inside the cave the little cub slowly started to wake up from his sleep again. I slowly opened my eyes and straight away I was incredibly scared I had absolutely no idea where I was. I looked around the cave I was in and I saw no one and I could barely remember earlier only that I was taken away from my mother who now wasn't here by my side making me feel safe anymore. I felt cold, hungry, alone and very afraid I had no idea what was going on and I started to cry out really load hoping that someone would hear me and come in. Outside Kuza heard my cries and walked into the cave and over to the crying cub. "Hey little feller what's the matter" Kuza said happily "I guess you must be hungry huh; I guess you must be after everything you have been through". I started to slightly calm down and for the first time I got a good look at who this lioness was I looked up and for the first time at the lioness who started to talk to me and suddenly I stopped crying she looked very much and sounded very much like my mother and suddenly I felt safe again. This lioness who I thought was my real mother fed me and I quickly filled up and I felt a little better as I hadn't been feed for the best of half a day. I stared up at this lioness who smiled down upon me I was still scared and confused about where I actually was. But I knew then that this place was to be my home and that I was now a member of this pride. "I better come up with a name for you little feller cause I guess you don't have one do you" Kuza said smiling down at the cub and stared in amazement at the cubs mysterious birth marks on his head and neck. "You have some very interesting birthmarks" Kuza said after a minute or so at looking at them "A crescent moon on your fore head and stars on your neck; I never seen birth markings like this before". "The king said he could sense something about you little one but what is it?" Kuza muttered to herself. "Still this doesn't help with coming up with a name for you does it" Kuza said uneasy a little confused "But what to call you" she said looking down at the birth markings on the tiny cub again. Inside her head she heard a voice keep repeating 'Twilight' over and over again; it was making her even more confused because she couldn't think of anything else apart from what the voice in her head was saying. Eventually she gave up trying to think of anything else to call the cub; but what the voice was saying was a perfect name to call this cub mainly because of what his birth markings where. Kuza looked back down at the cub and smiled "I thought of a name for you now little one it was the only thing that would actually come to mind" she said chuckling to her self "You shall be called Twilight my little one". At this very point I was very sure that this was in fact my mother because what where the odds of two lions saying the same name. But later in my life I would have to come around to the fact once I found out the secret behind my true life and identity that this lion was not in fact my real blood mother and this pride was not actually my real pride. Kuza got down and cuddled around me just like what my mother did last night. I nuzzled into her chest purring slightly and slowly I drifted off into a peaceful sleep. Several hours later I awoke again and my mother was not with me again but I heard voices outside the cave. I peeped over and saw my mother and the king talking to each other I decided to eaves drop on there conversation but it sounded like they where finishing off. "He must never know" the king said "He is a member of are pride now, he is one of us". My mother nodded in agreement and slowly I fell asleep again and for the many years to come I grew up like any one else of the pride.

Part 4- Growing Up
For many years I have grown up with the sunrise and sunset. I have grown up like any normal cub and raised the the same way everyone else was like everyone in the pride did. I have grown up to the extent of that I no longer need my mother to rely on. At this moment in a cubs life we are being taught all basic skills that all lions must learn for later use in life from how to hunt to knowing where everything is in the Pride lands. Every cub was finding the training and taking all this information in quite hard and who could blame them they where still young they just liked to play and laze around all day. But growing up had its sacrifices and this was one of those things that we had to give up but once we got the training done then we could possibly go back to how we where and enjoy are youth and grow up. Unlike the other cubs I have found the training incredibly easy and have gone through it pretty much effortlessly. For this I got a lot of praise from the adult lionesses who trained the other like my self; they said that I was quick thinking and smart for someone my age they also told me I was like someone almost double my age. I took pride in what they said to me and it made me feel incredibly happy but it didn't help me make any friends but in fact it worked as a opposite and the friends I originally did have turned against me in there jealous hatred ways. Friendships out here worked like bonds; bonds which could continually be made and broken which made everyone pretty miserable because everyone was jealous at someone for something; friendships in the pride never really lasted. Mine was a prime example back then. Many more sunrises and sunsets passed on for many months till we neared the end of are training by this time I was the best cub in Pride rock and at this point all the friends I did have no longer where friends some unfortunately died in training and by there own stupidity but I did not mourn long for them. I forgot the true meaning of friendship for many months because of the many months of been hated by all the other cubs within are pride. They kept hating me from being so good which was something they never seemed to forget and because I looked so different from everyone else because of my star birthmarks on my neck and the crescent moon on my head which I wondered my self for many months every since the first time I was being picked on why I actually had them. It got me down at first but I felt special by them and over the months I started to take no notice of there remarks about me but they left invisible scars on my inside which meant I found it hard to trust anyone and to make friends. But things where to change a few weeks after the training fully finished I was still picked on but not as much as I used too but I never made any friends again and as I lion I sort of changed from being like everyone else. A main difference from me and the others was I no longer slept with the others in the cave but slept out under the stars I got that idea because of my birth markings and I always stuck by it because when ever I slept out under the stars I felt better and I could think. But what really got me interested was when the king of are pride came out one night when I was gazing up at the stars and told me about the great kings also known as the great spirits which made me think more whether or not what I was told was actually true. A day after the king told me bout the great spirits I met Sunshine or as I call her now 'Shine'. We first met during the months of training that we did; but we never spoke to each other or knew that each of us existed for that matter. I noticed like me she didn't have a friend in the whole pride and like me she was bullied by the others on many occasions she was practically a loner like my self. We first noticed each other when I was walking about the grass lands of the pride lands one day. I noticed her alone on a rock just lying down on her side her head on her paws her ears down in a sad way; I remember walking up to her and her looking back at me in a sad way possibly thinking I was like all the rest of the cubs in the pride. Shine was not that different from any other of the cub lionesses in the pride and I really was confused why exactly she was picked on. She lighter fur to any of the lionesses and like me she had a birth marking where I guessed she got the name from because she had a marking of a sun on it. I sat down beside the rock and we talked and not long after we became friends and we learnt a lot about each other and what troubles we actually had; Shine told me everything apart from the true reason why she was the way she was and I wasn't going to know this until Shadow was to turn up on the sceane a few years from now. We swore a oath together that we would always be there for each other no matter what. The oath that we promised each other was that we I would stand up and help Shine out as she would do the same that's what made us closer; the only down side with Shine was she had quite bad temper and sometimes went over the top and got into fights. Are bonds between each other became unlike the others are bonds where very strong and would be extremely hard to break. And from that day onwards we become proper true friends unlike all the ugly rivalries and hatefulness that the other cubs had to deal with from day to day. As time went by me and Shine continued to learn off each other; we learnt new skills off one another, we adventured and we got into trouble on many occasions but mainly we continued to follow the oath we became even closer as friends. Time went by with the sunrise and the sunset we where growing up and things weren't going to be the same always but are friendship would still be going strong. We where true friends who would stick together through thick and thin and go through anything this world could possibly throw and put us through. I had a feeling inside ever since me and Shine first met that are lives where going to be dedicated towards seeking something in are lives to make us less miserable and to make us happier. My destiny was to seek the truth; the truth about my past to reveal my true identity which I was to find out later on in my life. But until that day was to arrive and I was going to have to figure out what my true destiny was I only had to concern about growing up.

Part 5- Two of a Kind
Over the next few years me and Shine grew up with the sunrise and sunset through thick and thin over those few years we where still friends; the rivalries where now dying out between all the other cubs but it hadn't fully died out and incidents still happened almost every few days. But thanks to mine and Shine's oaf we stuck by each other when ever we where the target of abuse from the others so they tended to now leave us alone. But in cases over a few years the rivalries had got out of hand and cubs where actually killed or very badly injured with scars that would stay with them for the rest of there lives. In a few cases they got so out of hand that the king actually banished some cubs from the pride and no one ever heard from them again; it may of sounded like a cruel but it sorted out the problem which seemed to slowly die out. A few of these cases I actually witnessed and was there at the final outcome of the kings final decision it was hurtful to watch even though over months of torment of wanting them out of the pride and then thinking differently when it came down to them being banished forever. These cubs where to fend for themselves for the rest of there lives roaming around from pride land to pride land searching for a area they where actually allowed to stay in. But out here they would probably would be killed by certain prides cause they where considered threats and the thought of that happening disturbed me and I actually felt for them. However not all of them left the pride lands to go to other further away pride lands; no they went to the Outland's the place just past the border of Pride lands only separated by a wide river. The Outland's is barren and not possible of sustaining life at all the ground was cracked there was very little vegetation and wildlife the only thing that there was enough of was termites and the mountainous termite mounds that spread out there. That's why very few lions decided to go exploring for other pride lands else where as life was always a constant struggle out in the Outland's and a complete nightmare to even think about. Very few cubs who where banished by the king went to the Outland's and we never heard or seen them ever again; we never knew what happened to them maybe they where taken in by a small group of fellow banished lions and lionesses or maybe they where dead. In one case which happened a few months ago a lion cub called Kasun killed one of my very few friends called Nilona who me and Shine became friends about a year or so ago before this incident. She was brutally attacked for no reason she bled to death with me at her side there was nothing I could do or anyone could do; she was to ripped up. She didn't stand a chance she wasn't strong at all compared to any other cub but her intelligence was the best that any cub was known for apart from my self which actually was the reason I had interest in her and at the time I actually had a crush on her. I was crushed by her death I grieved for days over her but thanks to Shine who comforted me. I felt better but I continued to wish that she wasn't dead; i vowed one day I would kill Kasun for what he did though after time I calmed down I didn't want to be exiled from the pride who knows what would of happened to Shine if I did. But one thing is my hatred for that lion would never go away it was a unforgivable crime. Life was now more bearable for everyone because of the kings many decisions even though many of us thought it was a bit over the top and cruel as it was only sending them to the deaths; some lionesses left with there cubs when they when they where ordered to be exiled which made everyone feel sad and also very angry towards the king who seemed unaffected by it. But it wasn't true he was affected I could see it in his eyes every time this situation happened; he would just walk away deep into the Pride lands but I dared not follow him unsure what he would say or do. But life went on as normal in the pride we all went about what we had to do; me and Shine where a year or so off from being classed as young teenage lions. The night had all but vanished the stars and the moon was replaced by the slow bright rising sun; the sky was turned to shades of red and orange. Slowly and tiredly I opened my eyes and instantly gazed upon the light which made me shut my eyes instantly and look away before trying to open them again; my eyes were always sensitive in the mornings. After about a minute or so I was able to look back over to the sun and at sky. Once again I had slept outside the cave of Pride Rock in the place that I usually slept; for some reason I just didn't like sleeping in the cave with all the others. The only true reason that I actually slept outside was because a year or so back the king of are pride came out one night and told me about the great kings of the past and how they where always watching over us and what these great kings could actually do. I slept outside and gazed upon the stars all the time hoping that in some way they could possibly help me or tell me something as I always felt there was something inside me that was actually missing. The only other reason I actually did sleep outside was because of my odd birth markings that I actually had which seemed to glow up when ever I was outside at night; I felt I was one with the night. I sleepily got up on all fours and stretched out I could hear the snoring of all the other lions in the cave behind me and to be honest this was pretty typical no one was ever awake at this time apart from me. I walked to the cave entrance and looked in to see if anyone was awake and to see if Shine was actually awake yet which I pretty much doubt she was. I looked in and I predicted correctly that everyone was still fast asleep and to be honest I really wasn't surprised. I decided to watch the sunrise from the top of Pride Rock as the view was amazing and you could see many miles around the pride lands from up here. When I got to the top the last of darkness had rolled away like a carpet which in hours time would be rolled out once again; once again turning the colourful land into darkness. The rising sun with its dazzling light brightened up the pride land; I sat there for several minutes watching it. On top of Pride Rock you could barely hear any noise apart from the odd bird that flew past; you couldn't hear the snoring from the other lions from here which was a good thing because that would of annoyed almost anybody. The early morning views where amazing you could see other animals go about there normal everyday business without interrupting; it was like you weren't even there but only as a spectator.

After several minutes of watching the sun rise and what the other fellow animals of the pride lands where actually doing I descended down from the top of Pride Rock and back down to the cave entrance to see if anyone had actually awoken. I gazed in and saw that still no one had actually awoken not even Shine who also was quite a early riser she even woke up before I did sometimes and found ways of actually waking me up her self but this time round I awoke before her but I wasn't going to awake her. I looked down at her and smiled cause she looked so cute when she was sleeping; but I also thought she looked cute when she wasn't also and I failed to see exactly why anyone disliked her cause she was like on the most beautiful cub lionesses that was at Pride Rock. I walked back out of the cave quietly so I wouldn't wake anyone up; when I got outside again I clambered down into the pride lands; it looked like I was going to have quiet a lot of free time for the next hour do until Shine and the others at Pride Rock decided to wake up. I thought that I might as well go down to the water hole for a drink and try and use my hunting skills to try and catch something to eat; my hunting skills aren't as good as they should be which made hunting for me that much more difficult. Slowly I padded along the worn down path to the water hole with the sun beating down upon me. I arrived at the water hole and found my self being the only animal there which was very rare especially for this time in the morning when it should be quite crowded. I got to the edge of the water hole and looked down at my reflection; I wasn't the most cutest lion in are pride but I didn't want to be anyway I would of just found it annoying. I was normal golden brown coloured like most normal lions in are pride with a light yellowish light brown underbelly; I had dark deep blue eyes and I had a dark brown hair growing on the top of my head and within the next few months a bit more should grow already it was quiffing at the top. I looked down at my reflection looking at my weird birth markings and once again asked my self what where up with them and like always I didn't have a answer. After a minute or so I looked up and gazed around seeing if anyone was near but there wasn't; I had a drink from the water hole it was cold but it refreshed me and I felt a little better now and decided to go and try to hunt something as I had a feeling that the are prides hunting party had not yet gone out yet. I walked along into the longish grass that ran by the path I took to get to the water hole; I didn't know exactly what to hunt as I was still no match for any fully grown up animals but I was more than a match for small animals and babies. I continued to walk along in the grass and finally caught sight of a small group of Zebra's out with there young; I got down low and slowly stalked forward towards them hoping to scare one of the babies away from its mother. I got closer and as I did my back leg clipped a rock making a noise which made the babies run and the adults rushed forward towards me and I didn't have a choice I had to run away. I ran away and I wasn't happy about how it actually went I was so annoyed about my hunting skills which just never seemed to improve no matter how hard I actually tried. I walked hungrily back towards the path I took to the water hole so I could get back to Pride Rock; once I was back on the path I walked slowly back. As I was nearing Pride Rock I heard rustling in the long grass to my left so I stopped and looked over to see if I could see anyone but I didn't; so I just decided to walk on. I walked on several more steps and once again I heard the rustling in the grass again and once again I looked round and I saw no one. "Hello" I called out confused I walked closer towards the edge of the path looking aware over the long grass "Anyone there?" but I didn't get no reply but after a few seconds I guessed that it must have been the wind or something. Then out of no where I saw Shine flew out of the grass and I didn't have a chance to react because I was on the floor and we playfully started to wrestle with each other. For several minutes we rolled around playfully but in the end I ended up flat on my back with Shine sitting down on my chest smiling down like a champion. "Ha scared ya and pinned ya" Shine said smiling and laughing. "And good morning to you to" I replied back slightly annoyed. "Good morning Light how are ya" Shine replied back with a smile still on her face. "I was fine to the point where I was pounced on" I replied back sarcastically "I must say you sure as hell woke me up...what where you doing" I said only seemingly to make Shine laugh even more than she actually was already, "I'm very sorry Shine" Shine said erupting in laughter again "I just couldn't resist you made your self such a easy target". "At this time in the morning I really didn't really expect to be pounced on" I said sarcastically and annoyed at the same time. "Oh Light don't get annoyed you get so cute when you annoyed" Shine said smiling and erupted in laughter again leaving me feeling embarrassed. "I don't get cute when I'm annoyed" I replied back "Me and cute don't got together I replied back "Anyway let me up will ya". "Oh yeah sorry" Shine replied smiling getting off my chest allowing me to stand up, "Shine has the hunting party left yet?" I questioned. "Yeah they have" Shine replied "They left several minutes before I cam after you; why do you ask?". "Because I tried to hunt for something my self earlier except my poor hunting skills got me chased away" I replied annoyed towards my self "I don't know why I can't hunt right Shine?". "I wouldn't worry about it Light you will be able to hunt like the best of us soon you'll see" Shine said flashing a smile which warmed up my heart she always had her way of making my self feel better. "I sure hope your right Shine I really don't want to rely on others for the rest of my live when it comes down to food" I said chuckling. "I wouldn't worry Light I went through the same thing a while back but I kinda grew out of it and you will to" Shine said smiling. "Shine your only less than half a year older than me" I said jokingly "Your making it sound like I'm like two or three years younger than you". "Shut up Light" Shine replied laughing "I need to go to the water hole you wanna come?" she questioned. "Yeah sure I got nothing else better to do" I replied back smiling slightly. I went with Shine back to the water hole before we headed back we talked about the things we generally talked about and we joked until we finally got back to Pride Rock. To my relief are prides hunting party had actually returned with two largish Wildebeest's so there was plenty of food available for everyone and more than enough to fill me up. We hurried over to the big queue of lions that was building up and after a little while we finally had chance to eat what was left; but as the kills where fully grown adult Wildebeest there was still quite a lot left to actually left to eat. After several minutes of eating I walked away and sat under a tree a few meters away and lay down as Shine continued to eat away at one of the Wildebeest carcasses. I was so full I felt I was going to explode and then looking at Shine it made me laugh cause she was defiantly eating more than I had and yet she still seemed hungry. "Your going to get fat at the rate your eating Shine" I said jokingly. Shine turned her head round looking a little annoyed "You gotta eat to survive" she said with a little smile; blood from the carcass was covering her mouth and nose and she stopped to lick it before turning back to the carcass again. "Well at the rate your eating that would be enough for two lions to survive" I said laughing. Shine got up and walked over to me she was smiling though she seemed a little annoyed about what I had just said; when she got to me she pounced onto me and once again for the second time this morning I was flat on my back and had Shine sitting on my chest again. "I'm not fat" Shine said smiling.

"I didn't say you where" I said smiling back "And I'm not going to fight you on a full stomach" I said jokingly. Shine got off me once again but I didn't get up as I was still full from what I had just eaten; all around us the lionesses where lounging around on rocks and under trees they weren't the most active of lions at all but they did seem to do more than any other pride of lions I have heard about. I yawned I was sleepy; staying up the best part of the night looking up at the stars and the moon could take its toll on a lion and I had to usually sleep it off in the day which I didn't do much as I was always with Shine. But Shine sat down next to me and we both fell to sleep after little bit of talking I was still going through the pain of losing my friend Nilona but over the past few weeks I slowly started to get unaffected to the subject unlike several months ago I could barely think about her as it made me cry. It didn't seem to effect Shine that much as she seemed to get over it quickly and I wished I could of too but unfortunately it had to be made difficult for others like my self. But eventually I managed to get over it and I talked to Shine quite openly about the subject of her and what could have been but now wasn't going to happen; the scenes of her last few moments no longer replayed in my head making me cry. I knew she was at peace that was all that mattered. But I couldn't forgive Kasun the cub who killed my friend in cold blood; he had no reason to do anything to her. We didn't have a problem with him at all unlike all the other cubs but after that act I wanted to kill him I didn't care if I was exiled from the pride; then Shine calmed me down and the thought of two of her friends being dead and banished was going to be hell on her and I didn't know how she would live without both of us. I remembered thoughts of the good times before my friend Nilona was killed; I slowly drifted off into a dreamless sleep next to Shine who already was fast asleep next to me. When I awoke it was nearing late midday but there was still plenty of sun left before the darkness was to sweep over the land making it night. Shine was also in the process of waking up; then her eyes opened to see me looking at her. "How long have you been awake then" Shine said sleepily. "I only just woke up like your self" I replied back smiling "You want to do anything; we still got plenty of day light left and I don't feel full anymore so I will do what ever you want" I smiled. "Anything you say" Shine said flirtingly as she got up then laughed "You just want to go around the grass lands and just see what's happening". "Yeah sure" I replied simply "But I have to ask my mum you know; she's making me after what happened last time you know". "Yeah I know why" Shine said happily then she replied sadly but I didn't know why at the time; but to be honest I didn't actually the sadness in her voice at the time until she told me why later. "I'd better go tell my dad" Shine said sadly and walked towards Pride Rocks cave. I found out about her true sadness only a little while later that day. I ran around the back of Pride Rock as my mum and her lioness friends always seemed to go after midday where they would talk about things that they usually would talk about and sleep. She was lazing around with her other friends most of them sleeping while some others talked they watched me as I ran over and they smiled to see me. As I closed in I noticed my mother it looked like she was asleep; but she wasn't going to be in a few seconds it made me smile trying to figure out how to wake her up. As I got to her I was about to pounce when she suddenly started to talk to me which stopped me dead in my tracks. "Don't you even think about it Light" my mother said yawning tiredly and looked down at me smiling. "I wasn't going to do anything mum" I replied smiling back she could read me like a book she just knew me to well. "Yeah right" she said back and pushed me over playfully with one of her free paws knocking onto my side. "Hey that's no fair mom" I replied a little annoyed and pounced onto her stomach and sat down. "So what's the matter Light?" Kuza replied. "Well me and Shine are getting bored around here and we wanted to know if we could go out into the grass lands" I replied back still smiling. "I don't think that's a good idea" my mother replied back "You and Shine always seem to find a way of getting into trouble when your together" she said smiling. "Oh come on mom" I replied back annoyed "If you don't me go I will just keep bugging you". "Ok go on then" Kuza replied back smiling "Just please don't get into any trouble will you". "When do I ever get into trouble" I joked and got a oh yeah you do look "Ok probably not the best thing to say huh" I laughed as I ran away trying to find Shine again "See you later mom". "See you later Twilight" my mother replied probably going back to sleep again. I ran back to where me and Shine where before we went off looking for are parents but she wasn't in sight at all; I waited a few minutes then I decided to go and search for her. My first thought was the main cave as her dad generally was there at this time of day. I ran back to Pride Rock and clambered up to the cave. I peered in and saw nothing it was just empty; I was confused. Where could she possibly be?. I was about to walk back down into the pride lands again when I felt something wet fall onto my head and I heard what was faint crying from up above; I didn't need to guess who it was. It was Shine. I rushed around and clambered up the path leading to the path to the top of Pride Rock being careful that I didn't slip or fall because it was going to be a long fall. After a few minutes of careful climbing I successfully managed to get to the top of Pride Rock; the cries continued from Shine who sat close to the edge she hadn't heard my approach and I hoped I wasn't going to scare her when I spoke. I slowly clambered onto the top of Pride Rock but I didn't move any close; Shine still hadn't detected my presence. "Shine what's the matter?" I said seeming to make Shine jump a little then the crying seemed to quickly stop. "Nothings the matter Light" Shine replied sadly seeming to try to hold back her tears; but still she didn't turn around. "Shine there's no need to lie to me" I replied back concerned "There's no need to lie to me; you can trust me" I walked over to her side and sat down next to her; she looked over at me and I saw tear stained cheeks and her eyes which where incredibly moist from the tears she had cried and the tears that she was fighting back now "So what's the matter?" I said again still concerned. "Light if its ok with you I would rather not talk about it right now" Shine said seeming to calm down a little bit "I want to see whether or not I can sort this problem out my self; I don't want to have to keep running to you when ever I am in a situation like this". "Shine I don't mind I'm your friend after all you know" I replied back looking into her eyes "Friends help each other out like this; and remember are oaf Shine we swore to help each other anyway". "Trust me Light I really don't want to talk about it" Shine said looking down at the floor again sighing sadly "I really want to sort this thing out on my own if its ok with you Light". "Ok Shine if your sure then I'm not going to force you to tell me" I said lifting her head up with my paw and nuzzled her and cuddled her trying to cheer her up. "Thanks Light" Shine replied back sounding a little happier as we cuddled together on top of Pride Rock. "You know I am always here for you don't you Shine if you want to talk about anything" I replied back as we still cuddled. "I know Light" Shine relied breaking the cuddle and smiled at me; her cheeks where still stained from her tears but at least now she was actually happy and in return it made me happier "Your a true friend Light you know that". "That's what true friends do Shine they help each other out no matter what" I replied back "Any friend would do the same as I have done; even you would do Shine if I was in your situation". "Yeah your right I would" Shine replied back "But you still are though but I don't want to bring the subject up". "I guess by that you mean Nilona right" I sighed sadly "Your right I've never got over it and I doubt I ever will Shine; I loved her" I said just staring at the floor. "Just forget I mentioned that Light" Shine said quickly "I shouldn't of brought it up; I don't want you feeling sad now because of me". "Its ok Shine honestly" I replied back sounding a little weakened than I was a few moments ago "I'm fine about it; how bout we just get off this rock and do something" I said with a little smile. "Yeah sure" Shine replied back now looking guilty and worried towards me "There isn't much sun light left; how bout we make the most of the light left then Light" Shine said winking a eye and smiling hoping to at least make me smile to make her feel less guility. We ran off into the grasslands in the dying light we played and wrestled as the over looking lionesses smiled and talked. "Two of a kind" my mother said surronded by the other lionesses. Very slowly the light was dying me and Shine where lying down under a tree exhausted. "We better head back Light" Shine said looking at the horison as it slowly turned black. "Yeah think we better head should" I replied. We slowly walked back side by side to Pride Rock like true friends in the dying light; we wheren't going to get to Pride back before the full of the darkness came down upon us.

I read the intro only (yet), and I love that you chose first-person to narrate in! Do you have a text file of the story? I might be able to help with some editing... if you want.

All right then. I could put it into MS Word and highlight the changes so you could decide whether or not to change it, if that's fine with you.
